Who is behind Embrace Network?

Hi! I'm Shanan Cunnington

My superpower is helping people feel comfortable in their own skin

I am passionate about providing resources and opportunities for people to form deeper connections and learn from one another because I believe it takes a village to do literally everything. I thrive on facilitating groups where people learn tools to improve their mental health.

I am a certified Learning Specialist and have over 15 years experience designing courses, workshops, and other learning experiences. I use this knowledge to fuel my creativity in designing opportunities for people to learn how to transform their lives so they FEEL different and blossom into the best version of themselves.

Where did it all start?

I have always wanted to run a networking group

I am obsessed with the entrepreneurial spirit

Back in my late 20s when I had my first stable corporate job and was working basically 9-5, I found myself wanting something more. Both my parents were entrepreneurs and as much as I resisted that path, I decided I would start a networking group because I loved supporting small local businesses and I wanted to foster connections and community.

At the time I didn't know much about business and after about a year without too much growth, I turned to other hobbies.

My love of entrepreneurs and the bold action of working for yourself still fascinated me. In 2016 I was let go from my training design job and I was blessed with the opportunity to dedicate my time to caregiving for my parents through my father's terminal cancer diagnosis. I couldn't face returning to the corporate scene, so with my seven years experience creating learning opportunities, I decided to create and facilitate workshops. A few months of that and I realized I still wanted to run a networking group, so in April 2017 I launched Embrace Network.

My focus was to create a community of heart-centred entrepreneurs and continue running workshops. I worked really hard to make connections and then the pandemic hit. I had been using Zoom for years with my instructional design contracts, so it was easy for me to transition Embrace Networking online. I am so proud of the supportive online community we had. I would not have made it through the lockdowns without the amazing people that joined our meetings twice a week. Our community grew and then we began meeting in person again for Thursday morning breakfast.

Another couple years pass and I needed a break. I decided to take the month of July 2024 off and felt such a sense of relief I decided to shut everything down for the rest of the year. I was proud of the community I had built, but it wasn't meeting my needs regarding inclusivity, equity, diversity, and accessibility.

After taking a year off and launching a women's group called The Society of Too Much Women, I attended several networking events in November of 2025. One was fantastic and the other shone a bright light on what I do not like about most networking events. So here I am in December of 2025 with great plans for the RELAUNCH of Embrace Networking in January 2026.

If the idea of traditional networking makes you cringe — awkward small talk, forced pitches, and transactional relationships — join me for the new and improved Embrace Networking.
